OpenSquiggly was founded by Kevin Dietz, a long-time veteran of the software industry, and a software entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to building software development tools, having previously founded and sold two successful companies.

He was a founder of The Software Edge in Colorado Springs, CO, which published the very first defect tracking system available on the Windows 3.1 platform, Defect Control System, or DCS. The company grew quickly and was sold in 1994 to INTERSOLV, where the product was incorporated into the PVCS line of version control products and was renamed to PVCS Tracker.

Following the acquisition of The Software Edge, Kevin went on to found TeamShare, a pioneer of the age of web-based software, and produced one of the first web-based defect tracking and business workflow systems on the Web, TeamTrack. TeamShare also grew quickly and came to be relied on by marquee customers such as Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and many, many other Fortune 500 companies. TeamShare was later acquired by Serena Software, and TeamTrack continues to be marketed to this day be MicroFocus under the name Solutions Business Manager.
